Melissa’s career started in South Africa, where she worked alongside therapists at a Specialist Therapy Center, after completing her PGCE, specializing in SEND in the UK. She jumped at the opportunity to teach at an outstanding Specialist school for Neurodivergent and Disabled children.

She is passionate about play, respecting ND and disabled play, understanding early communication as well as activity ensuring her classroom is Anti-racist and Inclusive for all young children. As a SEND educator, she writes annual EHCPs' (Education and Health Care Plans) with a strong focus on ensuring the language used for ECHPs' celebrate young children, moving away from a Pathology paradigm to and towards a strength-based Neuro-affirming paradigm.

As well as working in specialist settings she also works in mainstream settings and due to her own neurodivergence have found the latter more suitable. She shares current teaching practices in Early years and Primary for ND and Disabled children at @Iteachsen on her professional platforms.
